@knowprose And as I mentioned on the other thread, the GPL license and ability to fork is a strength in this situation.
Play out both situations:
Blender gets taken over by all the corporate donors and starts making changes the community doesn't like, maybe even changes the license.
Community forks the project, still have access to 'Blender.' See other cases of this. Rocky Linux, MariaDB, VeraCrypt, X.Org - the list of community forks that rose up in response to a takeover is huge.

@knowprose Now the other scenario. Anthropic forks Blender, releases their own 'Claude 3D,' funnels all the magical AI money into it. They'd have to release it open-source and any code - assuming the codebase doesn't become a vibe-slopped mess - could be used by the original project. Which one are we all going to be using? Probably the one maintained by one of the most inspiring open-source teams out there. Three decades building a free competitor to all the proprietary options.
