I don't get the rationale at all here : https://www.latitudemedia.com/news/meta-makes-a-bid-for-space-based-solar/
They want to put solar panel in space - with all the negative externalities it brings, in addition to the operational and maintenance nightmare - to then send back light to Earth solar panel? Why not just put more solar panels and batteries on earth and be done?

@fanf42@social.treehouse.systems this is an old idea from the 1970s for starting industry in space - NASA then did experiments with microwave receiver arrays and a helicopter with an emitter and found out that beam divergence and scattering makes it inefficient now they say laser but it'll have similar problems - in effect, each microwave or laser array in orbit would be somewhat of a weapon
