When we draw stick figures or children begin drawing, we use circles and ovals. This graffiti from Pompeii is striking to me in its angularness of its stick figures. Is that just a stylistic choice, or reflective of how stick figures are drawn in a place and time with different tools as standard? If you’re used to drawing lines in the dirt or scratching them into stone or wax on wood or whatever, maybe ovals are harder than when you have pencils and crayons on paper?

Welp, I looked into it and definitely are round stick figures in Ancient Rome and elsewhere. I guess this is a stylistic choice then, which itself is pretty cool
