In THE APARTMENT (1960), Jack Lemmon pays $85 for a 1-bedroom in Manhattan's West Sixties, near Central Park. In 2026 dollars, that's about $958 a month.
These days I don't think you can get a broom closet in Manhattan for less than a thousand.
