Another very nice Crux newsletter from @daedalus@eigenmagic.net today. When I first read about the Axon Bluetooth security fails in tasers used by Australian police, it felt like something from a satire on modern infosec and government purchasing decisions. And yet, here we are. With nobody telling police officers that they are trackable using the very weapons they so often carelessly use on citizens.

@emmadavidson @daedalus I've been seeing this story for a while. In a better world, they'd suspend Axon's contracts and require they fix it. But in a perfect world, police wouldn't need those devices...

@emmadavidson Gah yes yes and more yes. I am amazed that, ever since Hezbollah pagers exploded, that all security-minded professionals didn't get the message: If you carry *any* piece of radio receiving or transmitting gear, you become a target. I am *boggled* that managers of security people did not immediately suspend all gear other than those units that had been forensically disassembled to guarantee the absence of transmitter and receiver. Apart from the Kafka of it (which you have to adore, really) there's a massive bucket of omnishambles incompetence too.
