This is a photo of the ultrasound transducer in a desktop humidifier. It still works fine, but the gray ring looks to be eroding, and in the past, I've had that lead to water leaking into the electronics, and then the whole machine is ruined. I'm not sure it shows up in the photos but if I look really carefully there's a plastic seal underneath that ring that is also eroding and that's especially worrisome. Anyone have suggestions for how to repair or at least stop from getting worse?

Also when I poured some bleach in there to kill off the bacterial film that grew because I left it unused for a couple weeks with standing water inside, the ring started fizzing, which if you know anything about the chemistry of bleach you know that's very, very bad, and bleach is the manufacturer's recommended disinfectant so clearly something is Not Right (probably loss of a protective coating, this part did look painted when it was new)
