Also when I poured some bleach in there to kill off the bacterial film that grew because I left it unused for a couple weeks with standing water inside, the ring started fizzing, which if you know anything about the chemistry of bleach you know that's very, very bad, and bleach is the manufacturer's recommended disinfectant so clearly something is Not Right (probably loss of a protective coating, this part did look painted when it was new)
