@adam @decadecity Fundamentally not even really that novel - it’s what they were teaching us at uni nearly 25 years ago. All that’s really different is compute power enough to do interesting things doesn’t require planning permission.

@semanticist @adam A friend of mine at uni did his final year Chemistry project classifing oils using their IR absorbtion characterisrics using a "neural network" he found on a news group: it fitted on a floppy disk and ran on a 386.
