I want our project to be independent and resilient! Relying on the products of big, for-profit companies and their business model doesn't seem very wise in that regard. @andrewrk also recently pointed out that, by embracing LLM coding, you suddenly divide your community into rich and poor. And I want to act in accordance to my ethical concerns about energy usage, worker exploitation, and the mass violation of copyright and open-source licenses caused by these companies.

This is all a bit "thought in progress". But it seems that we as an open-source community need to figure this stuff out together, and for that, it's important to talk about it. That's why I wanted to share. Probably not surprising for most of you, though. :P I'm quite glad that, in our own project, we're in a position where we can steer clear of most of this crap for now. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest.

@blinry thank you for your clear, upfront communication. I had not thought about the financial division argument before, but you're correct that it is definitely an issue (now that the first fix is no longer free…) @andrewrk
