@irina@critter.cafe have you heard of the Sapphire Disc? edit: looks like the search results for this are all disc golf products now lol, but i remember hearing about a knowledge preservation project where data would be engraved in tiny writing on a layer of platinum and then protected with a layer of sapphire, to create a sort of "instruction manual" likely to survive an apocalypse.

@irina on top of leaving their equipment around in the first place. not referring to the stargates only. like leaving armed outposts behind in antarctica and whatever the machinery on dakara is. imagine if the ori or goa'uld had found it first?

@irina Documentation should survive at least as long as the device it documents, indeed. And if the device is fixable, then necessarily much longer than the device exists.
