I think it might be fun to talk about my home infra set-up, since I took some time over the weekend setting it up. For sharing large amounts of data, I turned one old PC into a NAS. It's not ideal, as it's quite small and the motherboard only has 4 SATA connectors (and it was from before NVME was really a thing so the SSD takes up one of them), but it's quiet and small enough to have running in the living room (next to my router). But for now I'm figuring that 2TB of storage (mirrored, just in case) should be fine anyway. It's not the fastest, but it's workable (and great price:performance ratio, given that it's all old parts I got given except for the network cable). It's running openmediavault, which is so far pretty painless and easy to use. A different old PC (and this one's ancient, I built it in 2010) I've turned into an ingest station. It has all the SATA ports and hosts a card reader and two optical drives, which I'll be using to rip my CDs to OGG (and who knows, maybe even the few blu-rays I have). Theoretically this one would have enough space to also host all the drives I could ever want for use in the NAS, but since it's an ancient power-hungry and noisy beast (AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition) I don't want to have it running in my living room (and running cables elsewhere is not really an option). It now runs Linux Lite (which I'm not completely sold about, I could maybe switch to Lubuntu). I am figuring this out as I go along, so there might be updates and I'm open to suggestions!
