Scam call from 01 578 4968 Today I got a scam call, allegedly from the above (Dublin, Ireland) number. The caller sounded female and had a strong Indian-sounding accent. Modus operandi was SIM hijack. She claimed to be from Vodafone and said I was entitled to discounted bills as I was a good Vodafone customer. I had to keep asking her to repeat stuff - partly because I was in a noisy environment, partly due to her accent, partly because she was speaking so fast, but mainly to waste her time. She then said she was going to send me a text with a six-digit number. I was to remain on the phone and read it back to her. Of course, at this point I said "So this is the scam where I give you that number and you hack my account.". Naturally she insisted that wasn't the case. At this point I asked her what specific account or service the call related to. At that point she hung up. That may be because she realised she couldn't answer the question. But I suspect it's because she (or a colleague) had tried to use the forgotten password option on Vodafone's website, had entered my number, and had found no such account exists for that number. And that's the sweet irony: although my number begins 087, it hasn't been on Vodafone for many years. Boosts welcome. #MastoDaoine
