@ic5146@meow.social even in the US a "cup" can be variable; in cooking it's pretty solid but how much volume a "cup of coffee" is is subjective - my coffee cup holds 4 cups of coffee where a cup of coffee is 2/3 of a cup also have you heard of barleycorns, nearly everyone in the US *and* UK deals with things measured in barleycorns every day, but of course we have three different measurements between us for it isn't that fun

@ic5146@meow.social lbf are cursed. Cups are even more cursed though. It's not just England and the US, most former/current commonwealth countries have their own slightly different versions. And then there's tablespoons, which are even worse. :neocat_woozy:

@ic5146@meow.social As somebody in the US, I absolutely agree that imperial system measurements are bad. Also, I did not know cups were different between the US and UK, that's horrendous lmao
