When the old search engines were dying, I remember one of the last things to happen with them is that they would no longer support modifiers.
Like you know how you put a + or a - in front of a word to force its inclusion in the results? Or "also"? They would just stop recognizing that.
And it was always a sign that the search engine was going to die very soon.

@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social yeah that's when I immediately stopped using google (would never have started, but the others eventually died) and moved to ddg. And then they started ignoring them as well (and later doing regurgibot shit lawl), so I immediately moved to startpage I genuinely don't understand HOW people tolerate it. It's not even complicated, but 95% of searches require a "search phrase" to do the very basic fucking purpose of a search engine, and not just random unrelated Algorithmic bullshit
