I appreciate that the work is very hard, but can anyone tell me why weather.gov continues to be a terrible product? The answer isn’t “because there are commercial sites where people can get the same information.” The home page has three “here’s how not to die” product features—this is public health education stuff that needs to be taught—and all of them are in tiny text on mobile. Who is working to fix this? Do they need any support?

@matthewburton@mstdn.social You could blame Wilbur Ross for a while, but not anymore. I assumed it was heavy pressure from the AccuWeather/Weather Channel crowd.

@matthewburton@mstdn.social It's scaled down from the full site (those infographics aren't there for instance) but I really like their mobile site: https://mobile.weather.gov/ The hour-by-hour feature is a personal favorite.

@matthewburton@mstdn.social there is actually great work happening on the future of weather.gov, right now, in the open, partnering with 18F: https://github.com/18F/weather.gov previous to that, I don’t know, but I can make some guesses based on over a decade of developing software in the federal space…
