How does one enjoy a community after finding out from its leaders that it's not about the people, but pushing merch? Like you watch them talk about their attendees in raw statistical analysis, the age brackets, where they go to eat, where they spend their money, and how to exploit it all. Sure, you offer your friends a smile as they purchase that shirt or flag, or whatever. Even they know the smile is fake. They don't understand, and you shield it to prevent it from ruining them.
