New post on my website! The State of Local-Only Fediverse Posts (WIP) Which Fediverse servers can handle local-only posts, and which apps can publish them? Here's what I've found so far. https://kvibber.com/tech-tips/fediverse-local-posts/ #fediverse #mastodon #GoToSocial #akkoma #LocalOnly

@kelson@notes.kvibber.com Misskey 100% still supports posts that don't federate out. https://misskey-hub.net/en/docs/for-users/features/note/#visibility Weirdly the button is currently called "Defederate" - it's the rocket one next to the "normal" scope button Misskey does not believe in the MastodonAPI, but it does have a field localOnly in its own API for this. I do not know how the current breed of Misskey forks - Sharkey, Iceshrimp and Iceshrimp.NET - does it, but I would suggest you look into it.

@kelson@notes.kvibber.com Interesting read. No ability to comment directly on the blog post, but i just wanted to add a FYI that Sharkey (and other Misskey-a-likes) have an button to 'defederate' a post. This means it stays local to the server. If it's then posted as public people can still find it by looking on the server. However, if it is 'followers only' it is only available to followers on the same server
