This got published a couple of days ago and snuck under the radar. I’ve been thinking about the TVA a lot and why we need something like it today for climate change: regional planning to make our communities more resilient. But that in turn led me to where the TVA went wrong. https://scalawagmagazine.org/2026/04/dirty-energy-and-the-lost-promise-of-the-tva/

@zeblarson@hcommons.social where do you find inspiration for your topics? This was such a good read.

  • @zeblarson@hcommons.social I really loved this piece, it filled in some gaps I had about the timeline & purpose of the TVA. It started some good IRL conversations about it with friends, too. Thanks for writing.

@zeblarson@hcommons.social You know Zeb, that was a wonderful piece you wrote. I grew up in the TVA area and until I was in college didn't even know there was a planning component. I knew it as a wholesale power provider. You filled in some holes and patched together some isolated pieces of knowledge. Thank you. One of the things that you may not be aware of is the difference between mountain culture and Southern culture. You might find that very interesting.
