My much beloved preschooler niece has parents who are wishy washy when it comes to masking up, which has created a fair amount of tension. One of the realities in the vein of “sometimes accommodations clash” is that babies and toddlers sometimes have trouble without being able to see a caregivers face.
Well, I’m feeling a little sick, and she came over to play outside. But notice I said she’s a preschooler now. She’s getting smarter every damn day. So the first thing I did was tip my mask to her and say that I’m wearing it because I’m feeling sick and don’t want to get sicker or get you or mom sick. Then later she saw my roommates mask with chain and loved it. And for two hours, she didn’t say a word about the masks again. She just accepted them as normal. Never pulled at it or asked me to take it off like she often had. Let’s go lil buddy, I appreciated you!!
Don’t let fear that someone won’t understand, prevent you from masking up. #MaskUp
