Is flatpak the „winner“? Without following it, it seemed like there were quite a few attempts at new packaging formats in the last few years.

@sense @iamkonstantin The distro-independent formats I know about are Flatpak, Snap and AppImage. I have no popularity stats, just personal preferences. AppImage has no update mechanism, which is a dealbreaker for me. Snap feels kinda bloated and clunky to me. It's also very much a Canonical technology, for better or worse. I feel like Flathub has a lot of officially supported GNOME apps. Some dependencies are deduplicated (e.g. Gtk/Qt) to optimize space/network usage.
