With Flatpak gaining traction that's not as big of an issue as it used to be. I can still get up-to-date versions of apps, often officially published by the author on Flathub, even if Debian's own repos are somewhat out of date.

@superblox @iamkonstantin sounds like a great improvement! Is flatpak the „winner“? Without following it, it seemed like there were quite a few attempts at new packaging formats in the last few years.
