I am not a "music person". I can't feel the beat, can't count, am not emotionally swept away or gut-wrenched by instrumental genius.
But sometimes.
Sometimes I hear a folk singer, someone who is a poet both in word and in strummings, and I am stopped in my tracks. Stuck sitting in a darkening grocery store parking lot because I can't bear to move until the song, or the set, is over.
It always seems to happen when I accidentally catch one of West Virginia's live Mountain Stage broadcasts.
The first time it happened, I heard Chris Smither for the first time. Tonight it was Anna Tivel.
You want to listen to Anna Tivel, too.
In particular you want to listen to tonight's broadcast, whenever Mountain Stage gets around to posting it to their website, which will probably be a week from now. Tivel's songs will break your heart -- wide open. I mean, if you like that sort of thing.
