@whitequark @danluu i feel like even ignoring the impact of meme technology du jour, the trick is always getting people to care about something. like, writing basic documentation has never been particularly onerous and people just don't do it because they think it's boring.

@dotstdy @danluu is it just because it's boring? or is it because they haven't bothered constructing enough of a theory of mind of the software's user to find it valuable or easy to write?

@whitequark @danluu i think the fact that people are writing pretty complex documentation to try and get their llm to work better is pretty strong evidence that they could have always written it, and just didn't care or see the value. and no degree of "it's easy actually" will change that.
