Couple of interesting BA.3.2 threads, the links contain embedded images in proper location.
Both loosely around the idea that BA.3.2 is circling around in a local maxima.

BA.3.2 is strange is so many ways.
It's now 17 months old, which is really quite old for a COVID lineage.
Every so often there is a sweeping lineage that displaces everything in circulation, but when that doesn't happen the existing 'clans' fight it out with each other.
The longest running clan is the current one. BA.2.86 emerged around July 2023 and is still going strong.
This is the RBD of the original BA.2.86, and some of its descendants from 17 months later.

The second longest lasting was the XBB clan. It emerged around August of 2022 and lasted until early 2024.
Again, here is the original RBD and the RBDs 17 months later.

Now here is the RBD of BA.3.2. It's ACE2-binding stinks, and yet it hasn't bothered to change its RBD at all.

And plus BA.3.2 sequences are coming disproportionately from children.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that the adult infections are just asymptomatic. That would fit better with the wastewater detection levels.

While other variants eventually evolved themselves into a corner (e.g. Delta, late XBB, XEC/KP.3.1.1, and now XFG), BA.3.2 seems to have been born in an evolutionary ditch form which it can't extract itself.

@mediaevalfishsandwich Thanks for sharing the RBD posts! This would be more encouraging though if ditch weeds weren't typically so hardy.

@mediaevalfishsandwich Also particularly interesting from Ryan Hisner: Advantage? BA.3.2 dodges antibodies better than any spike we've seen. Disadvantage? ACE2 affinity is low
