@thaodan this would fix feature parity problems in clients, like room upgrades. In the rooms I'm in we always wait for quite long before we upgrade so clients can catch up.
I'm not familiar with IRC so I guess I now know what my next rabbit hole is going to be 😄

@dlsl IRC has IRCv3 which contains various extensions to support quite modern features such as push messages, chat reply for 1to1 conversations and so on. It feels much better then old IRC but it's not widespread.
