Someone was talking about coming out and it has me contemplating if it was worth it. Prior to doing so I was a miserable human being to be sure, but coming out blew up my life. It led to losing my job and rendered me that much more unemployable and I've yet to find my way past that. Beyond that it's made every interaction I have with another human that isn't a trusted friend fraught with peril. 1/2

Was expressing my true identity worth the risk of starvation, homelessness, and death? Was it worth becoming a pariah or scary "other" to large swaths of society? The choice isn't a fair one (thanks, capitalism! thanks conservatism!) but it's the one I had to make. Was it worth it? I have no answer. 2/2
