If you fork an open-source project because you have a moral disagreement with the developers and then you pull upstream changes... what exactly is the point?
That's not taking the project in a new direction. If the project you're pulling from benefits from 'blood money' your fork does too.
It's convenient that the companies we're trying to avoid through our use of open-source software simply have to involve themselves in order for us to start friendly firing on ourselves and our alternatives.

@BenjaminNelan and yet, the bigger picture is not about the funding as much as the human aspect. Oh. And as I responded to you on my thread, they can fork that code too. I'd be surprised if they haven't already.
