New favourite annecdote: Pulp author E. Hoffman Price dragged Seabury Quinn to a New Orleans brothel only to discover that the girls were all Weird Tales readers and that a couple of them were particular fans of the Jules de Grandin stories and decided to give Seabury "one on the house".

Reminds me of meeting someone on a dating app off the basis of a shared somewhat nerdy interest. We hooked up and gradually realised that we not only knew of each other online but actively hated one another. Too weird to last. We definitely softened towards each other after that, but their last words to me were literally 'neither of us should mention this to anyone... ever' 😆
