@Taskerland The perennial problem with anything that (for whatever origin) can be perceived as racist, colonial or pick your poison really, is that the moment they are magnetic cultures for anyone who wants a fig leaf for being awful. I have some sympathy with living folk traditions, but they do attract "my country my way" types like flies to vinegar. I just think you can put some traditions behind a piece of museum glass and go "we used to do that and then we stopped because it upset people"
