Much of the right's reaction to everybody else's reaction to Charlie Kirk's death was manufactured faux-outrage, but there was a kernel of truth to it:
The right saw just how unpopular they really are with most people. They've been good at grabbing the levers of power, but they haven't won hearts and minds. When people weren't sad about Kirk's death, they got a preview of what people think about them, too.
They hate others freely but aren't prepared for it being turned back around on them.
