@swick thank you for pointing that out. I just filed https://github.com/uapi-group/kernel-features/issues/56 Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but making directly path elements safely is just always racy if you want to configure them in a particular way and you are not implicitly creating them from a root/root process.
