I said some tough-to-swallow things last night about the geek love affair with Elon Musk and how it contributed to where we are… Note: This is a paid tier post, I use that tier for follow-ups to the long public essays that are harder to say & I don’t need the internet-at-large vitriol over. It’s also up on my Patreon if you want to avoid Substack https://catvalente.substack.com/p/huddle-up-geeks-some-of-these-hot https://www.patreon.com/posts/86362906

@catvalente #AltText4U Black text on a white background that reads, "We fell for one of the classic blunders: if a guy shows up saying everything you've always wanted to hear in your deepest heart of hearts, don't believe that asshole he's gonna rob your house."

@catvalente I honestly didn't read the essay as a tough-to-swallow. It's fair and maybe it's age, but I don't have my ego wrapped up in being right about people. As with many things, sunlight is really anathema to these people. The more the antics draw attention, the more it's really obvious they are not who they perhaps appeared to be before. If Musk had stayed with fucking up his car company with throwing rocks at windows, he probably could have continued to lead his quirky bigoted life, naming his children after every punctuation mark that strikes his fancy and no one would have thought anything more than "well that's weird" and carried on. Actively maliciously destroying things does tend to bring the spotlight down on yourself though.
