Ha! Thanks everyone for the feedback on CoMaps vs. Organic Maps. I read the news section on Organic Maps and there is no mention of the concerns raised by the CoMaps open letter. That seems a bit odd, so I'll be trying CoMaps next.

@thedarktangent@defcon.social CoMaps is a fork of Organic as well. I'm not sure what the beef is here but ive used both theyre pretty similar. I think its something about concern that organic might be setting up for doing a rug pull on the license. Even if they were I think the fork may have dissuaded them.

@thedarktangent@defcon.social been trying Organic Maps among other apps, another nice one is "cartes.app" (no app atm, available through the browser) which seem to include buses (at least in my zone)

@thedarktangent@defcon.social They have bus routes display (assuming the data is in OSM, which it might not be for your area), but their support for live timetables is quite new. There was a GSoC project to add an initial prototype last year. I think this finished, but the goal was to add the generic infrastructure and a demonstration for one city. Making it work generically will be harder.
