Well, this is fun. Can't log onto gmail while traveling overseas. 2-factor authentication means it sends a text code, which can't be received on my iPhone because the eSim is for just data. Gmail offered "try another way" which asked for a previous password, which I supplied. It then redirects me to a page that says now, scan the QR code using your cell phone. But the QR code doesn't hep because it's detecting a new number from the eSim, and the normal number is, well, out of range. So Try Another Way doesn't work! It's really the same difference as if I had lost my phone -- everything depends on you having your phone and roaming. Gmail -- you need Another Way to allow traveling people, or people who lose their phone, to regain access to their account.
I wonder if I enable wifi calling, if that would allow verification code texts to some through?

@AskPippa@c.im It should work if you have enabled it before. They might require that you have enabled wifi calling at least once when you had cell coverage from your home carrier

@AskPippa@c.im aw hell. theres no simple work around for that. the only way to avoid this would have been in advance turning on a 2fa method using one of the code-generating apps (they all use the same math so you can pic an app and use it for everything). or YUBIkey nfc keys work too. there's also 'backup codes' you can download and save in a file to make sure you're not locked out.
