The feature request for "ability to disable replies" is now 7.5 years old. 😭
It's so fundamental that it is bonkers to me that it hasn't been implemented.
People on Github are saying we don't have it on Mastodon because it's not present in the ActivityPub protocol yet, so the AP feature request is here: https://github.com/w3c/activitypub/issues/319

@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe quotes also weren't part of the API either but that didn't stop them
