I learned that older people in France held the resistance and communists in high regard for their efforts to liberate the country during WWII. One of them played the song Heros, by David Bowie. It was meaningful to him, and now it's meaningful to me. It's from 1977.

Marc Hamilton recorded a song called Comme j'ai toujours envie d'aimer in 1970. I think I first heard the Roch Voisine version on the radio in Quebec. It's a super-duper cheesy, hippy folk song. https://open.qobuz.com/track/92792755
