Thanks to @SteveSawczyn for the inspiration, now that I’m living the Tailscale dream, I purchased a GL.iNet GL-MT3600BE (Beryl 7) Portable Travel Router, which has Tailscale built in, including the ability to connect to specific exit nodes. So, it has all the usual benefits of travel routers like only connecting one device to hotel Internet, the ability to repeat w Wi-Fi signal, and a mode that lets you plug in a device that has Internet access into its USB port, but it has Tailscale as well. What’s not to like? Well, frankly, the web UI, that’s what. It’s doable but it’s horrible from an #accessibility perspective. Still, the ability to select how this router connects to the Internet is right there on the home screen, so it’s not too bad once configured. This is particularly cool for when I travel with Bonnie, because mostly, she’s not going to want to bother with Tailscale, but if she can just connect to this router and have access to the Synology NAS on her ThinkPad as if she were at home, while also securing her Internet access in a public place, that’s all good stuff.

@JonathanMosen@caneandable.social Yay, I'm really glad that tip was helpful. You've probably already discovered this, but Tailscale has a paid add-on from Mullvad that lets you establish an exit node for your Tailscale in whatever part of the world you might want an exit node. This means I can use Tailscale to connect to things at home, but can also use it as I would a more traditional VPN to connect from different areas geographically. https://tailscale.com/mullvad
