@XerShadowTail I guess a standard analogue mic might work if the computer's ADC isn't cheap (it probably will be)

@vikxin If you happen to have an oscilloscope handy you might be able to pick something up from the microphone directly, from the diaphragm that is. This assumes there is no filtering happening. You would have to do a sweep motion with the noise after getting a baseline measurement, if your microphone is not responsive enough and hope it picks up the phase change.
