@vikxin If you happen to have an oscilloscope handy you might be able to pick something up from the microphone directly, from the diaphragm that is. This assumes there is no filtering happening. You would have to do a sweep motion with the noise after getting a baseline measurement, if your microphone is not responsive enough and hope it picks up the phase change.

@vikxin You would need more expensive equipment to measure the device and how it responds. Very likely to harm your cat and the dog at the same time.

@XerShadowTail I don't have an oscope but I do have a logic analyzer that can do analogue sampling at a high enough rate. That might be enough. I'd probably have to breadboard a breakout but fortunately I have the components for that.
