This really depends on where you live. Our local hydro utility gives us one for one with net metering so we effectively use hydro as our battery.
Others may offer time of day usage deal whereby they charge more for early evening usage, so a modest battery to get you through the supper hour makes sense. You will need to check with the local utilities and see what is practical.

@sleepy62 @tojiro nice, you didn’t have to have a battery yourself then I wish we had net metering here (France), but no; the closest we have are “virtual batteries” which work the same way, but excess from your quota is discounted (or you’re paying a premium for the privilege to use the energy you produced a while ago)
