@burnitdown what felt naive was the shock I experienced after receiving the news. I’m not sure why I hadn’t considered this ending. I think your phrasing of helping people “survive the genocide” brought that up for me. That’s not at all what donations achieve. It’s the harsh truth. Again, I’m not arguing against support and solidarity. It’s just a very painful reality and it’s been made unbearably apparent to me with this recent event. I’m just so sad.

@shotgunseamstress you are helping people to survive a genocide by helping them get money for food. it's also necessary to accept that they are surviving a genocide, so they may be killed by their oppressor while you help them survive. i do this while already accepting that the people i am acting in solidarity with may still be murdered at the end of the day. that does not make it a worthless effort, and does not mean i am not helping anyone survive a genocide. i do this because if i can do nothing else, then this is what i must do.
