That's a rare lythophage feed tube.
Lythophages are now extinct, due to all the concrete and plastics. They are about the length of a finger, they can create a high tempersture exothermic reaction and metal into the rock, subsuming meta oxide vapors, depositing them as excretion on the walls of the tube.

@n_dimension @kate Your second claim about extinction doesn't seem to be true from what I've seen digging around. There seems to be many sources listing Lithophaga species as being alive at least up into the 2010s. Do you have a specific source regarding extinction? I'm no biologist, so I could be wrong, but the internet seems to be yielding no sources on that claim.
