That’s not what I got from the post but I might be wrong. That said, it’s not abandonment, I believe the “temptations”Jon is referring to are things like peer pressure, shiny object syndrome, FOMO and generally following the herd despite it going against your conscience(reason)and heart(feelings/instincts). Example would be pivoting to NFTs when that was trending or like following an authority figure even though your conscious disagrees…

@da1729@mathstodon.xyz @jonmsterling@mathstodon.xyz That said, it’s in our human nature as pack animals to be “compliant”, to not diverge from the herd and also in our society, they generally punish disobedience/divergence and in order to succeed, it’s not enough to be “competent”; you need to be “liked”/“integrated” to a degree. Also certain “temptation” are rooted in anxiety about one’s future, like their livelihood which is real and should be addressed head on.
