My ex commented on that after we moved from Queenstown to Dunedin. In QT retail, underpaid staff were either chatting amongst themselves, or surly & disinterested. Customers were a distraction. Whereas in Dunedin, if you asked where an item was located, the staff member would actually take you to it. She said they weren't pushy, just genuinely helpful. I hate shopping, but the experience is so much nicer in Dunedin. @ClareBear @mwt

    @BobLefridge @ClareBear I guess I should clarify - the entire staff pretends that I don't exist while being effusively friendly, chatty, and helpful to all the white customers in the place. Because they are putting off having to talk to me for as long as possible. And the white customers (especially the old white customers) are happy to oblige. Some of them get all up in my personal space like I'm not there. It's not like I'm important enough to be next in line in front of them. #racism
