How do you plan to train these things without theft? Do you honestly believe there’s enough people that would opt-in to using their data to train the torment nexus just because it’s open source? What problems do you think you are actually solving for humanity outside of shareholder profits? If reading/writing emails are is unimportant that you can’t be bothered, maybe they don’t need read/wrote at all. 🧵2/4

@micahilbery@mstdn.social you're missing the forest for the tree. Data centers are not necessary infrastructure. BOINC showed that of community-led distributed compute was somewhat achievable. Gen algorithms were not *made* to replace humans and solve paying wages. That's just the one nail capitalism is throwing *every* hammer at. They could power assistive tech (and already do to an extent) They could prompt people to seek benefits they are entitled to They could help with repairability of closed hardware

@micahilbery@mstdn.social ‘We need natural language processing technology without the push for using it fucking everywhere’ is not exactly ‘we just need to supply the artificial demand generated by the AI bubble with open source AI’
