Of course recency bias plays a big part in this. Anthropic is a freshly hated thing. This is a fresh announcement from Blender. It kicks up a lot of fresh crap.
Besides, we're already used to Microsoft or Meta sponsoring open source projects. We grumble at their attempt to polish their turds (remember "Microsoft ♥️ Linux"?) but we generally let it slip.

But I think there *are* legitimate differences. Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, etc are established companies. They can (and tend to) throw a dozen million bucks a year at a charity. Anthropic is not. So the questions of whitewashing and quid pro quo become even more pointed. Speaking of, with NVidia, AMD, etc, the quid pro quo is obvious. They corpos are funding the project because they can use it. Because they work with it. What's Anthropic's game here? {cont}
