But I think there *are* legitimate differences.
Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, etc are established companies. They can (and tend to) throw a dozen million bucks a year at a charity. Anthropic is not. So the questions of whitewashing and quid pro quo become even more pointed.
Speaking of, with NVidia, AMD, etc, the quid pro quo is obvious. They corpos are funding the project because they can use it. Because they work with it.
What's Anthropic's game here?

And finally... at least Microsoft, NVidia, AMD, etc, have actual useful products, even if they engage in corporate buggery. OpenAI and Anthropic... don't. At most they have a somewhat useful product that has to be artificially cheapened with infusions of money. This actually reminds me of another open source project: Bulma, a SASS framework, is currently sponsored by a bunch of casino sites. Which is really unfortunate, IMO. {cont}
