The first problem is that I'm on Linux. This means that my choices for emulators for this specific task is complete trash. "But Techo, UAE was made for Linux systems, why not u-" UAE IS DEAD. Everything has moved to WinUAE, the Windows port of UAE, which intentionally ignores non-Windows platforms. All other Amiga emulators are now downstream of WinUAE, focusing on different use cases and restoring the multi-platform nature of the original UAE. And WinUAE is the only one with ACTUAL DEBUGGING TOOLS. FS-UAE has a completely kneecapped GUI that is only good for people wanting to just play games and Amiberry threw away the debugging tools. WinUAE on WINE is not an option, because it refuses to detect any user input whatsoever. Not even F12 works! I have to do Stupid Things to force-quit it. Alright, well, maybe I can try a different direction. One of the main tools used for ripping maps in Amiga games is Maptapper, which works on WinUAE savestates. Because all the emulators are just downstream of WinUAE, they all use the same savestate format. So, I use Amiberry to get into the game and make a savestate. The savestate is 4.2MB... wait. Why is it so big? All the example savestates that come with Maptapper are less than a megabyte. And in fact, trying to load this savestate causes Maptapper to choke violently and nearly crash! What???? Is it because I'm using a game collection with a frontend? How in the world...?

If the people that made the Kid Chaos maps for Hall of Light posted their work files, I could have used those to get the tilesets. But whoever did it didn't seem to post *anything* on the English Amiga Board, they just posted the maps straight onto Hall of Light's website. And I'm not about to register for that forum to ask about that, only to be told "the maps are already on the site, why bother"
