There is a general pattern I've seen in "child protection" politics for as long as I care about those things: Every time some politician loudly claims they will do something to protect children, it's at best empty posturing, at worst a pretext to pass horribly abusive mass surveillance and social control legislation.Every time someone tries to actually do something to help or protect children, they get ignored, silenced, or shut down. (Because it would cost money, threaten some powerful people, and/or question some oppressive power structures that are deeply ingrained in our societies.)
