I love reading alt text because it can reveal more about the personality of the one posting it. like when it's a picture of a knit sweater and I'm like "okay cool... a sweater" but then click the Alt Text and get this description of the yarn and the stitching used and stuff it's like "damn, they really cared about this"

@quasirealsmiths@beige.party It's hard to not care about a sweater when you made it stitch by stitch yourself :)

@quasirealsmiths@beige.party @UkeleleEric@mstdn.social I do this when I post pics of plants and flowers -- if you can see the photos you get appreciation on one level, but if you can't and instead are relying on alt text, you get a unique little experience just for you

@quasirealsmiths@beige.party It also helps that I can put 1500 characters into an Alt text description compared with the 500 characters in the toot body. Because of this I often add context as well as descriptions in the Alt text.

  • @quasirealsmiths@beige.party so, So, SO much this ❤️ it's the visible love and care that goes into everything here that makes the space special, and even if it's not something I'm personally passionate about, that secondhand passion really rubs off, and makes everything a joy
